This is everything you wanted to know about AOL but hate to find out. We all love to hate AOL. But we have to admit, it is the mainstream of the online service world. They have over 22 million subscribers, more than anyone else. If you took all the people AOL have, and put them in a state, you would have the second largest state in the country next to California.

The current version of AOL is AOL 5.0.  Version 4.0 is still out and used by some. 3.0 is rare but I am sure its out there. 6.0 is in the works, I have it as a beta tester for AOL. I cant tell you much about it now as it is in testing and there isn't much to tell other than it is very different. (see below how to get it.)

AOL is an online service. Not an ISP. Although many would debate that and in a way, they would be right. They do provide access to the Internet. But they do much more than that. An ISP just proves access to the internet. An online service provides much more. It takes the internet and condenses it. It makes it easy to find news, sports, weather. Email and chatting are much easier. Articles and current events are easily accessible. They offer parental controls that are free. An ISP offers no parental controls and you have to pay for an extra software that baby sits your kids while on the Internet. I could go on about what they offer but I think you get the idea. It is a very user friendly service. Great for the novice. However, the more seasoned computer user will probably not use AOL or graduate from it going to DSL or Cable

The next version of AOL is in preview beta release. If you would like to try it, its available for free on AOL. Go to keyword beta and type beta. You can download it and it will self install.
